    That is because they own the truck and they can hang anything on it that they want. Hope this helps.

    it simply means they are not responsible for miscellaneous stones and pebbles on the road Way which when driven over, will break your windshield. you cant expect to legally hold em responsible for something they have no control over?

    They can put anything they want on their trucks, but it doesn’t make it so. If they damage you, make a demand. If they refuse to pay, sue the bastards.

    You should put that on your car. And I’ll start wearing a shirt that says, “Not responsible for own actions” or “stray bullets” or “pregnancies” and so on. If they can do it so can we, and if they say we can’t, it’s because I’m brown.

    They hang that sign up so people will THINK they can’t do anything about it! They actually ARE responsible! The same as if you put a load of bowling balls in your trunk and one hits another guys car,, it came from your car,, you’re going to pay no matter what kind of cheap sign you bolt to your vehicle.

    Like you said in your question,, if I hang a “not responsible for wrecks” sign on my car,, will that make me exempt from liability??

    HECK NO!

    If a truck drops something and it hits your car resulting in damage, get the plate number and company if able and sue them to make them pay for the damage they caused.

    Instead of pasting a useless sign up, they could always use a tarp to hold the loose junk down and not overfill the truck!

    a truck is not responsible if something comes from the roadway. the problem is, dump trucks are an easy target. people have falsely accused the trucks of damage claiming that it came from the truck and when in reality, the damage was done previously. they trucks put the signs on there as a warning to drivers to stay away so there will be no damage done.

    They can hang whatever they want, but if they damage your vehicle and you can prove it then they will have to pay. And thats all she wrote. If they know that pebbles fly from their trucks often enough to cause damage they should cover the dump part with material, as some trucks do because this is the industry standard.

    They’re free to hang any sign on the truck that they wish. It doesn’t make it legally binding on anyone, however.

    Yeah , i see that a lot too. Most of the time when they sport that sign , they also have no license plate visible on the back either (how they get away with THAT one is a mistery). My neighbor got his windshield hit by an errant rock while behind a dumptruck. He followed it and made the guy stop , had police there and all that. The Company responsible DID buy him a new windshield.
