How fast does a truck have to be moving to catch a stuntman falling off a bridge?
February 13th, 2009 | by Michael |John Q asked:
During the film, a stuntman must each be from a bridge into a moving truck. Assume that the stuntman has a speed initial 0 m / s and should fall 7 M. The truck? 10m away when the stuntman begins to fall and is traveling at a speed constant. How fast must the truck travel to interfere with the stuntman>?

To find how long it would take to fall 7m you would use:
X = Xo + Vo t + 1/2 a t^2
X=0
Xo=7
Vo=0
a= -9.8
so 0 = 7 - 4.9t^2
solve for t to get 1.19 seconds
then if the truck is moving at a constant velocity it has 1.19 seconds to travel 10m
X = V * t
10 = V * 1.19
solve for V to get 8.4 m/s

About 11 m/s.

seven thousand feet per sec.
