    sheet metal and a welder

Cut out rust to solid metal and weld in a new piece of metal. This will prolong it, but it will come back eventually. It may be a year or two, or 6 months. You have to replace the inner panels as well which is not cost effective to make it last longer.

It’s just like cancer. If you don’t cut it all out, it comes back. If you’re just wanting to “make it better” keep applying bondo.

Probably just what you don’t want to hear - cut out the rusting wells. An air chisel with sheet metal bit, or sawzall will do it.

The problem is probably coming from the backside, due to mud buildup. Once it gets wet, it takes days to dry out, and rust keeps working until it does. Bondo over the top outside just provides a more protected place to work.

To stop it, you have to remove every last pit of rust before applying any preventative, and then stop doing whatever it was that allowed moisture back in. It can be a challenge.

Sand all the rust and cover with fibergalss shetts then bondo over the top. Other than that you will have to cut out the rust and weld panel in its place.
